Kashmir (J&K) - The Paradise on Earth

Situated in the northern part as the crown of India, the vale of Kashmir is one of the most beautiful regions of India. The state is ancient and has a history of around 4,000 years. The state became the part of India in 1948, but with a special status under article 370 of the Indian constitution. It is bordered by Pakistan, China and Afghanistan from West to East. Called the ‘Switzerland of India’, the brilliance of its snow-capped mountains, the tranquility of its silver lakes, a romantic journey on its houseboats and the splendour of its gardens hail the nature lovers from all over the world.

Another amusement of Kashmir is its weather. Though it is a small state, the climate differs from one region to another. The climate of Jammu region is tropical while Ladakh and Srinagar are chilling. The best season to visit Kashmir is April to June for Kashmir Valley and October to March for Jammu. Besides natural splendour, there are many religious sites and other monuments to be seen in and around the valley. Because of infiltration and terrorism, tourism in Kashmir faced a major blow since 1988, but now the condition is improving very fast. Once again Kashmir can be seen bustling with tourists. Come to be with the exquisite paradise on earth–Kashmir. The marvelous vacation with Indian holiday at the enchanting vale of Kashmir will leave you with unforgettable memories of a rendezvous with eternal beauty

Some of the best destinations of Kashmir:

Srinagar:
Srinagar is the hub and heart of Kashmir. The Dal & Nagin Lakes enhance its picturesque setting. An ancient city steeped in legend and history dating back to the BC era, Srinagar today is a resort for tourists to experience the magical beauty of the valley that has attracted visitors from all over the World since time immemorial.

Pahalgam:
The sparkling streams the happy murmuring of myriad brooks the limpidity of it’s sheetylakesand the sublime beauty of the mountain tarns the splendour of snow covered sunnyflower -laden highlands and meadows-these and the variegated beauties of flora and fauna were variously described by the travellers and others. At an altitude of 6,900 feet and about 95 kilometers from Srinagar, pahalgam is probably the most popular hill resort of the valley where one can romance with nature for endlessly. It is here alone where the “solitude and blessed serenity” as epitomized by W.wordsworth the blend of “super-natural and nature” by S.Cloeridge and “romantic themes”delved into by J.keats together with sufism and kashmiri reshi culture find embodiment without a parallel.

Sonmarg:
Sonamarg literally means the ‘Meadow of Gold’ and although this could be due to the profusion of flowers that wraps the meadow in the spring it is also possible that the name originates from Sonamarg’s decisive trading position in the days when this was a main route into central Asia. The Sindh River flows through the place and is bountiful with Trout and Mahseer. It is the starting point of a major trek passing several mountain lakes – Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar and Gangabal. One trek leads all the way to the Amarnath cave . The other reason for Sonamarg’s importance lies in the fact that it is the last halt on the Kashmir side for the drive from Srinagar to Leh.

Gulmarg:
Gulmarg’s legendary beauty, prime location and proximity to Srinagar naturally make it one of the premier hill resorts in the country. Originally called ‘Gaurimarg’ by shepherds, its present name was given in the 16th century by Sultan Yusuf Shah, who was inspired by the sight of its grassy slopes emblazoned with wild flowers. Gulmarg was a favourite haunt of Emperor Jehangir who once collected 21 different varieties of flowers from here. Today Gulmarg is not merely a mountain resort of exceptional beauty- it also has the highest green golf course in the world, at an altitude of 2,650 m, and is the country’s premier ski resort in the winter.

Amarnath Caves:
Amarnath Cave is named after Mount Amarnath (5,486m a.s.l.), where it is located nearly 4000 m high. Because of this height, the cave is covered with snow for most of the year. Only for a short period in summer, the entrance is accessible. The cave is an ice cave, it contains a certain amount of ice stalagmites. The cave is a holy place for Hindu pilgrims, because of its ice content. One very characteristic pilar of ice is believed to be an ice lingham, the phallic symbol of Lord Shiva.

Ladakh:
Ladakh is a land like no other. Bounded by two of the world’s mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram, it lies athwart two other, the Ladakh range and the Zanskar range. Leh, the capital of Ladakh is situated at a height of 3505 meters and is towards the eastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The region is watered by the Zanskar River, which flows into the Indus River just below. Spilling out of a side valley that tapers north towards eroded snow-capped peaks, the Ladakhi capital sprawls from the foot of a ruined Tibetan style palace – a maze of mud-brick and concrete flanked on one side by cream-coloured desert, and on the other by a swathe of lush irrigated farmland.
